Top 5 Vancouver Winter Activities
After an amazing summer, with record low levels of precipitation and lovely warm days, VanCity is heading into winter. Here is a list of the top five Vancouver winter activities:
5. Ice Skating
Robson Square is at the heart of the city with shopping, hotels and all the poke shops you could ever want clustered around it. It is the centre of culture and fun in Vancouver. But below the square, from December 1st to February 28th, lies a little patch of ice perfect for a fun afternoon of ice skating.
Skating is free but the rentals will cost you a minimal fee (usually around $5 a pair).
If you can’t wait till December to start your skating, slide down to the West End Community Centre for a public skate or a little stick and puck fun.
4. Breweries
Looking for something a little more adult orientated? Try one of the many breweries scattered through the Downtown and Eastside neighbourhoods. Mount Pleasant is an excellent place to begin your search. Need a few suggestions? Brassneck is a great place to start with lots of unique small batch beers. Hungry? Head to R&B for a wood oven pizza and a Hipster Haze. But if you only have time for one, head to our favourite Mt. Pleasant brewery: Electric Bicycle.
3. Bike Tour
Tired of shopping and sashimi? Want to see the city but loathe loud, exhaust sucking bus tours? A bike tour is the perfect winter activity to see the city, get some exercise and learn about Vancouver’s unique culture. Let a local take you on a 3-hour tour of the hot spots. Vancouver Bike Tours offers daily tours starting at 9:30AM.
2. Christmas Market
If holiday cheer is what you’re after, head down to Jack Poole Plaza for the annual Christmas Market. Built around Vancouver’s olympic cauldron, the market hosts over 90 vendours, daily entertainment a carousel and new this year – augmented reality! Oooohhh…. Buy your tickets in advance and be sure to read their ‘Know-Before-You-Go’ page.
1. Mountains
Those gorgeous snow tipped mountains are not just fodder for your gram. No, they are a playground of winter activities, from snowshoeing, to tubing, to gondola rides to skiing and snowboarding. Cypress, Seymour and Grouse all have a variety of trails and runs for all of your snow filled shenanigans. Cypress has already opened for the season, so get up there! Play safe and have fun.
